TOEFL results and the road to Australia

I got my TOEFL iBT results. They took ages to publish my results in the ETS site. However i still need the official report and I'm still waiting. Why do they take so long? I payed good money for this test, and US$ 155 is a lot of money here in Perú. Well maybe I'm just being a bit impatient.

Next step... getting the plane tickets. I contacted a INTEJ agent to get cheaper plane tickets but I've got no response yet.

OMG... I've just found that I only have 9 more weeks here in my country!!! I haven't left yet but I'm already missing my family!

iBloga

Yesterday some friends and I finished a project, an experiment, an attempt to create something new, it is called iBloga.

Now we are working on creating a spanish version of the site.

Eligible

Today after more than a month i received a letter from the University of Queensland (Brisbane), stating that I'm eligible for admission in the Master of Science program with specialization in Computer Science.

I feel better now, relaxed.

This Friday I must take the TOEFL ibt, and I must get 90 and 21 in writing, I hope I make it.

The future unfolds...

New Blogger

I was hesitant to try the new blogger but now I'm in, it looks similar, I will explore a bit more.

STRESS

esterday I was in front of the computer working... it was late, and suddenly I felt like a pain in my belly, more like anguish, and I worried "what's going on?". Suddenly I felt the vertigo, my vision was blurred, and the next thing I remember is that I was laying on my side over the chair and my feet were kicking involuntarily. I lost consciousness, I don't know how long, but I fainted bad, and felt terribly cold after I woke up. My friend hurried my to the hospital, I went to emergency, my blood pressure was fine, and they took some blood samples to make some tests. I was still trembling, my face was icy and i was worried, very worried. a few minutes later the blood tests were ready. Nothing wrong there. Diagnostic: stress. The doctor said that it is very probable that its stress, but that I should check with a neurologist anyway. But I know... it is stress, fear, worries, tension.

Today I was surfing and i found this prayer, and i feel a bit better each time i read it or remember it. The "Serenity Prayer" of theologian Rheinhold Niebuhr, adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference-
living one day at a time;

Dreaming of the future

Dreaming of the future, the near future, my near future... I've been dreaming lately about waking up in Australia and feeling disoriented; to go to an unknown country, to breath new air, to know new people, to adapt to a new environment. Its a big deal, and my mind is racing all the time about my future travel to the land of kangaroos, koalas and Steve Irwin (R.I.P.).

My decision is made; I will hopefully begin my postgraduate program in the University of Queensland early next year. It is still some months away, but my mindis already there.

Changes are coming fast to my life. The come with fear and excitement, with hope and anxiety.

I'm already missing my family and my friends here in Perú, I was supposed to go to Australia with some of them, but in the end I will go alone; And with that fear and anxiety grow bigger.

FEAR

Yes… fear… the little death. The fear of the unknown, the fear of being far away from my family, from the people I know, fear of not being successful, fear of failure. My vision is blurred by these fears. It’s difficult to handle fear… more difficult to handle it alone.

Homework

My mom told my little sister to do her math homework, as you may imagine the homework was some multiplications. I think she took it seriously.

Change and Challenge

Well, I've been reflecting a bit, and I see the uses of hope. Hope is the reality waiting to be created. I’ve been a little depressed a few days ago but now I feel a new impulse driven by challenge. The challenge: I’m going to study a Master in Information Technology! Yes, I will apply next week to the University of Queensland in Australia. The decision is made and my next 2-3 years of my life will be hard and away from home. Rough times are coming, but I’m sure I’ll be blessed and my path will be illuminated.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Hope... I heard a lot about hope. Some say that hope gives us the strength to keep going, that hope is the only thing that you must never loose. I heard that hope is the feeling that you will succeed tomorrow in what you failed today. I believe hope is an illusion, a concept created to make people feel better when they are in despair. It is a psychological state of mind. Hope gives you son impulse, hope can give you strength, but a man can’t live with hope alone. It’s good to have some hope sometimes, but there is people that rely on hope every day, every minute. I believe that is wrong. I consider myself a dreamer, but being a dreamer in this world has only brought me suffering and loneliness. So I saw that I lived only with hope, but every time I had hope, I was disappointed in the end. For me hope is now forbidden. I will not rely on hope anymore, ever. Hope never dies? HA! I just killed it. I will rely on intelligence and hard work. Dreams… I don’t know… I’ve been a dreamer all my life… it is a part of me that I may never change. But dreams will never drive me anymore. I will set clear objectives for myself. I may never have hope again; I may never hope something happens anymore, who knows… I don’t’ know. Maybe next week I’m back to normal.

Blessed be Coffee!

Coffee… I love it… I can’t live without it. And not many people can. Coffee is the second most commonly traded commodity in the world. I wonder what would happen to the world if one day ALL coffee disappears in an instant. It would be chaos! But I'm getting too apocalyptic here. Coffee is my fuel; I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn't drink a cup a few minutes before.

There are also some studies that say that coffee is good for your health in moderated quantities. My mom and I suffer from migraines, if we don’t drink at least 1 cup a day, we are doomed to headache. There are also some studies that say that decaf coffee is dangerous to your health, that it can cause cancer. But all those studies have mixed results and there are not any conclusive results.

What matters to me is that I like coffee, I drink it in like 20 different ways, I enjoy it and that is what matters to me.

It’s my dad’s birthday!

Today we celebrated in family; my father asked for something simple but asked us to be all together. In this troubled world full of stress and dangers, we had a few moments of peace. There was no talk about work, or politics, or about someone’s illness, or about Israel bombarding Lebanon. I felt real peace today, and it has been a long time since I felt that. And now I wonder how many families in the world can have that simple peace.

The World Cup is over

This has been an amazing World Cup. I've seen excellent matches and outstanding performances. Italy is the champion now. I can barely believe it. Medina Cantalejo may never set foot on German, French and Australian soil, who knows what can happen if he does. How curious is that he was the one that gave the penalty to Italy against Australia and was also fourth official for the final between Italy and France

Awards!

Italians are the champions; however, I think France and Germany are the moral champions. Miroslav Klose got the Golden Shoe, I hope he beats Ronaldo in the next world cup. The Golden Ball goes to Zinedine Zidane, who also showed us some expertise in gladiatorial games. The Yashin Award goes to Gianluigi Buffon, who I think is the one that took Italy to the final. The FIFA Fair Play Trophy goes to Brazil and Spain, hey, they got something at least! The Most Entertaining Team was Portugal, a team that showed the world that football can be very beautiful, and also showed the world that the World Cup can't be won with nice football alone. The Best Young Player Award goes to Lukas Podolski, a great player; too bad for you Messi!

Well I hope the next World Cup is as good as this one or better.

The show is over, back to the real world, back to normality. I hate normality!

After the last two matches, I can say I'm satisfied. Italy showed they can play very well, I wonder why they haven't played like that before. Germany, you did great, Kinlsman is a great coach and thet is a very bright future for the german football. Portugal did great today. But that wasn't enough. Both team played a good match.

Now France will face Italy and Germany will face Portugal for 3rd place.

May the best team win.

Zidane... the return

Well, I've said that I wouldn't watch the World Cup anymore, but I couldn't resist... the quarter finals were amazing, but there, the last match, France vs. Brazil, there is another deficient referee. Medina Cantalejo, the very same referee that helped Italy beat the Australians. Why FIFA assigns him another match after what he did in the Italy-Australia match? I don't know0. Well I hope we have good referees for the remaining 4 matches coming.

About Brazil. Everyone was saying Brazil will be the champion. Everyone loved Ronaldinho because he played very nice football, and everyone’s favorite was Brazil. Why? I think that happens with big teams. They get fans easily; fans say “I support Brazil” just because they know is the strongest team (except Brazilians of course, the love their football and that’s ok). Well it seems it wasn’t after all the strongest team. Why I say this? Because here in my country, people wanted Brazil or Argentina to be champions not because they were South American teams, no, no, no; the real reason is because they want an easier qualification road for the next World cup. That is disgusting. They want someone to win to have the task easier. Always looking for the easier path. Well I think that if the Peruvian team would have reached this World Cup, they would have been pathetic.

Now, talking about real football. Today was amazing. Portugal and England gave us a very nice match, well done England, you could have done better, but you exceeded the expectations of many. Portugal did great. Figo did great and C. Ronaldo did great as well. Well done Ricardo, you are their hero. But watch out, France is coming after defeating Brazil, not a small thing. What an amazing match these two gave us. They player fairly and none of the players looked for help from the referee (shame on you Italy). Zidane was amazing. You are the Maradona of France (but a better person of course) I wonder if some years from now a statue of Zidane will stand in Paris?

Now the semi-finals are coming with the best 3 teams of the world right now and Italy. Will a referee help Italy again?

World Cup tainted?

Italy 1 - Australia 0

This is by far the most unfair result of all the World Cup. This World cup is tainted, from the first kick off, the only winner here is FIFA, and some well paid referees. Money, this cup is not about football anymore, its about money. A shame. I no longer care who wins, because it's not going to be a fair champion, I'm sure of that. This world cup is over for me.

Loneliness

Sometimes life can be so empty... Sometimes loneliness can be so heavy... Sometimes we are waiting and waiting for the right one to come and we waste our life... our youth... our hopes... All of a sudden, in a blink of life, you get to realize that you have no one to talk to... to hold to... to love...

Loneliness is the only disease that can be cured by adding two or more cases together. That is the nature of my life, that is that feeling of not being chosen, of being ignored, of being left alone in the darkness of loneliness. Should I spend my life in solitude? Should I live in books of fantasy? Should I dream and live in my dreams? Can the ethereal world of dreams and fantasy hold me and feed my soul? No one wants a dreamer...

But I shall reamin a dreamer, if no one real comes to join me in my dreams y shall find someone in my dreams that will be with me, and in loneliness I shall thrive.
